There is a popular saying in the addiction recovery community that “the opposite of addiction is connection.” During a time when it is difficult to connect in person with those you care for the most, how do you manage the ensuing fear, frustration, and isolation you may end up feeling?
Our counseling intern, Katie Thomas, CMHC-Intern & Recreational Therapist, TRS, CTRS, has this to say: “We are still resilient. We have the same coping skills we had prior to COVID.” Whatever the emotion you are feeling, negative or positive, allow yourself to recognize, feel, and process the emotion. Remember, you are not your emotions, and you don’t have to let them determine your actions.
